We offer a one day practical lime course here at Roundtower where you can gain an understanding of using lime in modern construction and in the repair of old buildings. We will cover all types of lime including natural hydraulic lime, insulating lime plasters, non-hydraulic lime as well as covering topics such as lime mortars, pointing, rendering, lime washing, limecrete and breathable insulation options. There will be practical demonstrations too, with a chance for you to get involved. There will also be talks and interactions.

Should you have questions regarding a project you are undertaking we will be happy to speak about it with you on the day. We would recommend you bring photos of the project with you. The day will include a tour and lunch in Cor Castle.

Course Presenters

Eric Kingston has significant construction experiencein conservation and restoration projects across Ireland and the UK. Eric has a post graduate diploma in Building Conservation from the University of Reading and had completed courses with West Dean College on Stone Conservation

Harry Good-Stephenson Harry Good-Stephenson is the Director of Roundtower Building Products Ltd and has been involved in Roundtower for the past 6 years. He studied Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Reading. Harry has an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the restoration and new build industry using lime-based products as well as natural insulations and is heavily involved in advising and assisting architects with specifications for conservation and restoration projects.

Practical Considerations

Please ensure you are wearing suitable clothing and footwear for the practical demonstrations as well as weather appropriate clothing, especially in the colder months, as we shall be outdoors during some of the course

On The Day

We offer tea and coffee from 9.30am so please do join us, with the course starting at 10am. A brief introduction from one of the Roundtower Lime team will be followed by informative and practical demonstrations by the trainer, with the opportunity to get hands on experience. Please feel free to ask questions throughout the day and to bring photographs of your own projects should you like some advice. Lunch is provided which will include a tour of Cor Castle.
