Rake out or cut slots into the horizontal mortar beds, a minimum of 500mm either side of the crack, to the specified depth. The slot should be at least 10mm wide to accommodate the 6mm diameter HeliBar. All mortar must be removed, together with any loose debris, to ensure a sound bond.

Step 2 Clean the Crack: The next step is to clean the slot. Clean out the slot with a blow pump and apply HeliPrimer WB or flush with water. This step is critical as it ensures that the bonding agent will create a strong bond with the masonry.

Step 3 Apply the HeliBond: Using the CS Pointing Gun Kit, inject a bead of HeliBond to the back of the slot. HeliBond grout is the recommended bonding agent, but PolyPlus resin can be used for smaller jobs or where loads are to be rapidly applied.

Step 4 Insert the HeliBar: Using a finger trowel, or similar, push the HeliBar into the grout to obtain good coverage. The HeliBar should be long enough to extend 500mm beyond the outer cracks if two or more cracks are close together.

Step 5 Add More HeliBond: Insert a further bead of HeliBond over the exposed HeliBar, finishing 10-15mm from the face, and ‘iron’ into the slot using a finger trowel. This step ensures that the HeliBar is securely bonded to the masonry.

Step 6 Fill the Crack: Make good the vertical crack with an epoxy-based weatherproof filler e.g. Crackbond TE. Repoint the mortar bed and make good.
