Application Information
Clay Decorative Plaster is applied internally in thin coats, with a maximum thickness of 2mm per coat. For the best visual result, a two-coat application is recommended. The first coat should be applied thinly and evenly across the surface. Once dry, the second coat can be applied and finished to achieve the desired final texture and appearance.
Substrate Preparation
The substrate must be:
- dry
- solid and stable
- clean
- free from film-forming release agents
- sufficiently rough to provide grip
- evenly absorbent across the surface
Where the background has uneven suction, it should be prepared with Casein Primer. Weakly absorbent surfaces such as concrete or gypsum board should be treated with Wall and Ceiling Primer. Joints between drywall boards must be reinforced before the finish plaster is applied.
Proper preparation is important to ensure even drying, good adhesion and a consistent decorative finish.
Mixing
The dry powder should be mixed thoroughly into the required amount of clean, cold water using a suitable mixer until a smooth, lump-free paste is achieved. When wet, the material will appear significantly darker than in its dry finished state.
After initial mixing, allow the plaster to rest for around 15 minutes so the material can fully swell. It should then be stirred again vigorously before use. The consistency can be adjusted slightly with more water if required.
A mix that is too thin can be difficult to smooth and control, while a mix that is too stiff will be harder to spread evenly. For larger quantities, standard mixers or plaster machines can be used. Mixed material can also be stored in sealed containers for several days.
