Heavy Clay Building Board is a high-density internal clay building board for drylining, wall linings, partitions and ceiling applications, combining the speed of dry construction with the natural performance of clay. Manufactured by Conluto, it is designed for breathable internal construction where moisture regulation, solid feel and natural material performance are important. We offer this board in both 16mm and 22mm thicknesses to suit different project requirements.
Made from natural clay with reinforcing fibres, Heavy Clay Building Board is ideal for use in timber frame construction, stud partitions, wall linings, sloping ceilings and renovation projects. It offers the benefits of a breathable clay system while allowing for faster and cleaner installation than a fully wet-applied clay plaster build-up alone. This makes it an excellent option for natural building, low-energy homes, heritage renovation and healthy interior environments.
The boards are suitable for internal use on timber or metal studwork, as well as other solid backgrounds where appropriate. The 16mm board can only be applied to studwork at 400mm centres, while the 22mm board can be applied to either 400mm or 600mm centred studwork. This is a key specification point and should be considered when selecting the correct board for a project.
Heavy Clay Building Board also adds useful surface mass, helping to improve the solid feel of lightweight internal constructions while contributing to indoor comfort. As part of a breathable clay system, it helps regulate humidity and supports a healthier internal environment.
For projects where fire performance matters, Heavy Clay Building Board has a reaction-to-fire classification of A2-s1, d0, and the current Conluto technical documentation also includes tested wall build-ups achieving a range of fire-resistance and acoustic results depending on the full construction.
Once installed, the surface is typically finished with a clay skim or decorative clay finish, allowing the full system to remain vapour open and natural in character.
