In-Situ Running Render Muffle Coat

In-Situ Running Render Muffle Coat is a lightweight backing mortar developed for the production and restoration of decorative architectural mouldings. Designed to be used behind the In-Situ Running Render Casting Blend, it reduces material consumption while providing bulk, stability, and support to larger cast or run features.

Formulated using lightweight aggregates, Natural Cement, and reinforcing fibres, the Muffle Coat helps build up the body of decorative elements without the weight and cost associated with using casting mortar throughout the entire section. It is particularly suited to cornices, string courses, architraves, brackets, and other traditional façade details. Based on traditional Roman Cement restoration techniques, it forms part of a complete casting and running system for heritage and conservation projects.

Why Use In-Situ Running Render Muffle Coat?

When producing larger decorative features, using casting mortar throughout the entire section can be unnecessarily expensive and increase the weight of the finished element.

The Muffle Coat is designed to provide a lightweight backing layer behind the Casting Blend, allowing decorative features to be built up efficiently while maintaining stability and reducing material usage. This traditional approach is widely used in the restoration and reproduction of historic architectural ornamentation.

Installation Overview

1. Surface Preparation

Ensure moulds, backgrounds, or previously applied casting coats are suitably prepared before application.

2. Mixing

Mix with clean water to achieve a workable consistency.

3. Application

Apply as a backing coat behind the In-Situ Running Render Casting Blend when producing cast or run decorative features.

4. Finishing

Once cured, the completed feature can be finished using the Casting Blend as the outer decorative surface.

5. Storage

Store dry and protected from moisture prior to use.
