Roundtower NHL 2 Fine is a factory-prepared, dry ready-mixed lime mortar, blended using high-purity Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL 2) and 2mm kiln-dried sand in a precise 2:5 ratio. Designed for pointing, bedding, and textured render topcoats, it is ideal for use in breathable wall construction and conservation projects where a softer, more flexible mortar is required.
With selected additives to improve workability and reduce shrinkage risk, Roundtower NHL 2 Fine combines the benefits of traditional lime with the convenience and consistency of a pre-mixed product. Just add water on site.
Key Benefits
✅ Soft Set (NHL 2) – Ideal for soft masonry, historic fabrics, and low-strength substrates.
✅ Ready-Mixed for Consistency – Factory-controlled 2:5 NHL-to-sand ratio ensures uniform quality across batches.
✅ Extended Open Time – Once mixed, mortar remains workable for at least 8 hours.
✅ Breathable & Cement-Free – Vapour-permeable for healthy wall performance and compatible with heritage materials.
✅ Low Shrinkage Risk – Additives help control water demand and drying, reducing cracking in render topcoats.
✅ Natural Colour – Contains no pigments. Colour will vary slightly depending on sand but remains aesthetically traditional.
Applications
🔹 Fine Pointing Mortars – For historic brick or stone with minimal joint width.
🔹 Bedding Mortar – Suitable for laying soft brick or stone in breathable construction.
🔹 Textured Lime Topcoats – Apply as a 6–10 mm finish coat over breathable lime render systems.
🔹 Solid Wall Buildings – Ideal for internal and external lime-based systems requiring flexibility and high vapour openness.
Technical Coverage & Yield
-
Coverage (Render @ 10 mm): Approx. 1.4 m² per 25 kg bag
-
Coverage (Pointing): Approx. 25 bricks per bag
-
Yield: Approx. 13.5 litres of mortar per 25 kg bag

Add 60–70% of total water first, then add dry mortar. Mix for 5–10 minutes, adding remaining water as needed.
-
Quench for 10–20 minutes, then remix briefly before application.
-
Avoid overwet mixes—excess water increases shrinkage risk, especially in renders.
-
Always dampen high-absorbency backgrounds before applying.
