Tradilys Protect

Tradilys Protect is a specialist natural hydraulic lime (NHL) dehumidifying render designed for the rehabilitation of damp, salt-contaminated masonry. Formulated without cement, it combines high vapour permeability with low capillary absorption to allow walls to dry naturally while buffering and controlling damaging salts. It is suitable for both internal and external applications in heritage buildings, renovation projects, and breathable new construction.

Key Benefits

  1. Designed for Damp & Salt-Laden Walls

Specifically formulated to treat masonry affected by rising damp, capillary moisture, and salts including chlorides, nitrates, and sulphates.

  2. Breathable & Vapour Open

Its low vapour diffusion resistance (μ < 6) allows moisture vapour to escape from the wall, promoting natural drying.

  3. Low Capillary Absorption

The macroporous structure limits capillary water uptake while encouraging evaporation and salt storage within the render.

  4. Cement-Free & Heritage Compatible

Formulated from natural hydraulic lime with mineral and pozzolanic fillers, making it compatible with traditional masonry and conservation work.

  5. Manual or Mechanical Application

The mortar has a soft, creamy consistency suitable for hand application or machine spraying.

  6. Salt Buffering Performance

Its open, aerated structure helps absorb and store salts, reducing migration and the risk of efflorescence, mould, and masonry deterioration.

Typical Applications

  • Treatment of rising damp

  • Salt-contaminated masonry

  • Heritage restoration

  • Basement and lower-ground walls

  • Breathable renovation projects

  • Internal and external wall rehabilitation

  • Conservation and retrofit work

Why Use Tradilys Protect?

Conventional cement renders often trap moisture and can accelerate deterioration in damp masonry. Tradilys Protect is designed to work differently: its breathable, macroporous structure allows moisture to evaporate while buffering salts within the render itself. This helps protect the underlying masonry and creates a drier, healthier wall system.

It is particularly suited to heritage buildings and solid-wall construction where moisture management and material compatibility are critical.

Installation Overview

  1. Surface Preparation

Remove existing plaster to at least 50 cm above the visibly damp area, repair defects, and thoroughly dampen the substrate before application.

  2. First Coat

Apply a rough 5 mm coat of Tradilys Protect mixed with approximately 5.0–5.3 L of water per bag. Leave rough and allow to dry for at least 24 hours.

  3. Main Coat

Apply a 20–40 mm coat mixed with approximately 4.7–5.0 L of water per bag. If thickness exceeds 30 mm, apply in multiple coats with a one-day interval between layers.

  4. Do Not Compress the Render

Avoid excessive pressing or rubbing; performance depends on maintaining the aerated pore structure that stores salts.

  5. Finishing

The surface will remain relatively coarse. Finer lime-based finishes can be applied after an appropriate curing period.

  6. Storage

Store dry and protected from moisture before use.

    Not suitable for:
    • Immersed masonry

    • Gypsum/plaster substrates

    • Timber backgrounds

    • Earthen walls (adobe, cob, rammed earth)
