Course Agenda

In this course, we will look at how to sympathetically restore the beautiful facades in Ireland. We will cover many topics including:

  • Facade Protection & Repair
  • New Build Construction
  • Cleaning Products
  • Pointing Mortars
  • Protections against driving rain
  • Historic facades including brickwork, natural stone and render.

We will put a special emphasis on Historic Facades including:

Bricks:

Bricks are one of the oldest known building materials used by man. However, a brick façade does not just comprise of bricks but also the joints inbetween. High moisture absorption levels of both or one of the two building materials are usually the starting point for damage.

Natural Stone:

In contrast to bricks or modern building materials, natural stone not only differs with respect to its shape, colour and surface quality, the physical and chemical properties are also very different. It is therefore especially important to preserve the original material and carefully select the newly installed repair materials to preserve the substance for the long-term.

Rendered Facades:

In contrast to bricks or modern building materials, natural stone not only differs with respect to its shape, colour and surface quality, the physical and chemical properties are also very different. It is therefore especially important to preserve the original material and carefully select the newly installed repair materials to preserve the substance for the long-term.

We will be joined by Mark McGuire and Sharon Jenkins of Remmers, who will be presenting this course.

On the morning of the training course, all participants will receive an email containing the link to join the online course, which will be taking place via Zoom.

There will be a brief introduction from one of the Roundtower Lime team, followed by the presentation by the trainer, with the opportunity to ask questions at the end in a dedicated Q and A session with our guest speaker and our team. We will endeavour to answer all the questions presented during the time slot, however if we don't manage to, any of our team will be happy to follow up after the session.
